Trauma is not just the big upsetting events of life. It can also be the little things. Prolonged stress over work or family, financial or creative struggles, difficulty in relationships, illness, accidents….the list goes on. It's also important to note that trauma can arise from both past and present experiences.

Regardless of its source, trauma can deeply impact how we show up for life. High stress and unresolved trauma can disrupt the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as panic attacks, anxiety, depression, insomnia, heightened sensitivity, and digestive issues.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-based, naturalistic approach to healing trauma, founded by Dr. Peter Levine. Through decades of research, Dr. Levine developed SE as a way to restore balance to the nervous system after the effects of traumatic experiences. SE recognizes that trauma is often stored in the body, not just the mind, and that traditional talk therapy, which engages the higher analytical functions of the brain, may not fully address this. Healing trauma effectively requires addressing it at the body level.

Through a gentle, collaborative process with an SE practitioner, clients learn the language of their bodies, tools for self-regulation, and how to restore nervous system equilibrium. This process allows for a fuller range of emotional and physical expression and a more embodied way of being.
